Peckoltia sp. L205

Brazil

The most regularly exported Peckoltia species from Peru is L205. This is a nice species with a grey body covered in black spots of various sizes. This makes for good looking contrasts, which explains the commercial appeal of L205. It's like most other Peckoltia species easy to take care of, and if properly conditioned they will do well even in normal community tanks.

Facts:

Name: Peckoltia sp. “L205”

Trade names: L205

Origin: Rio Ucayali, Peru.

Maximum TL: 14 cm / 6''

L205 is an omnivore, so a varied diet is required. After a period of maintenance and conditioning the fish are easy to breed. Clean, warm water with good movement and a tank furnished with decent caves and other hiding places makes the fish feel relaxed, and the males will show off some impressive odontodal growth on their flanks and caudal fin. 10-50 eggs are laid in tight caves where the male guards them.

L205 is often confused with Peckoltia brevis. P.brevis comes from western Brazil (Rio Purus, Rio Tefe), and has a more pinkish ground colour compared to the more grey L205. The spots on the head of L205 usually reaches to where the dorsal fin begins, whereas in P.brevis the spots usually don't go that far back.
